Plan the inside before the outside
Hanging height, drawer depth and shelf spacing are decided from what the wardrobe has to hold. Long coats need a taller drop than shirts, and drawers take depth that hanging space cannot spare.
The carcass is then built to the measured wall, including any bulkhead or column that has to be worked around. Sliding doors save floor space in narrow rooms; hinged doors give full access where there is room to open them.

Should I choose sliding or hinged wardrobe doors?
Sliding doors use no floor space when opening and suit rooms where a bed sits close to the wardrobe. Hinged doors give access to the full compartment at once but need a clear opening arc. Room width and storage habits decide the better option.
Can the internal wardrobe layout be customized?
Yes. Hanging drops, shelves, drawers and upper storage are placed around what you own rather than a fixed package. Share the balance of long garments, short garments, folded clothes and accessories during the design stage.
Can a wardrobe fit around columns or bulkheads?
Yes. Columns, ceiling bulkheads, skirting and uneven returns are measured into the plan. The carcass and fillers are divided so doors and drawers still operate correctly and the visible lines remain deliberate.
How do you plan a fitted wardrobe layout?
The internal layout follows what you store: hanging drops for long and short garments, drawer depths and shelf spacing. Sizes are drawn up before the carcass is cut, and any bulkhead or column in the wall is measured into the plan.
