Sizing a sofa properly
Three numbers decide whether a sofa works in a room: overall length against the wall, seat depth for the way people sit, and seat height for getting up easily. We agree those before the frame is built.
Frames are built from solid timber, the suspension is chosen for the expected use, and the fill is matched to how firm you want the seat. A single long bench, a corner return or a pair of matching sofas are all built to the same measurement sheet.
- Seat height can be raised for easier standing and lower settings are available for lounging layouts
- Fixed or removable covers are both possible
- Delivery access is checked before the frame is glued and fixed

The timber frame is built for the agreed footprint. Suspension and layered foam are then selected for daily use and the seat feel you prefer.

Can you build a sofa to my exact dimensions?
Yes. Length, seat depth and seat height are taken from your room rather than a standard size. The doorway or stair access is checked at the same time so the finished sofa can actually be carried into the room.
How is a custom sofa different from sofa upholstery?
A custom sofa is completely new: the frame, suspension, cushions and covers are built to your chosen dimensions. Sofa upholstery keeps an existing frame and renews its fabric and worn padding. The two services are measured and quoted differently.
Can I choose the sofa firmness?
Yes. Seat height, foam density, layered fill and fibre wrap can be adjusted to create a firmer or softer feel. We discuss who will use the sofa and how it will be used before confirming the cushion specification.
How long does a custom sofa take?
A made-to-measure sofa depends on the frame size, the fill chosen and the fabric. If the fabric is in the workshop range the build can start once the measurements and fill are confirmed; if you supply fabric, we allow for checking it first.
